Fun Day News!

We are pleased to announce the attendance of the Cosmic Dust in the City team from the University of Plymouth, who will be joining us on the day offering visitors an engaging opportunity to explore the science of micrometeorites, tiny pieces of space rock, which can be found on roofs and in gutters all around us. They will be delivering a range of interactive, science-informed activities designed to inspire curiosity about space, Earth, and the processes that connect them. Their work focuses on connecting cutting-edge scientific thinking with the local community, encouraging both young people and adults to engage with science in a meaningful and memorable way. At their stand, visitors can;

  • Understand how tiny pieces of space rock land all around us and find out where you yourself can find them
  • Observe these tiny pieces of space rock under a light microscope and also up close in a scanning electron microscope machine you yourself can operate.
  • Try to find your own tiny piece of space rock from material collected off the roof of the very building you will be in.
  • Discover how tiny pieces of space rock can help us understand how our solar system formed billions of years ago.
