Sustainability on Scott Business Park

At the Wolseley Community and Economic Development Trust, we are committed to creating a resilient, healthy, and sustainable future for our tenants and our local community
GREEN LEASES
Our business park team has spent the year preparing to introduce Green Leases for our tenants. By incorporating specific terms focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction, we are expanding our existing sustainability efforts.
This move allows our parks to create a much more sustainable environment that benefits both our tenants and the local community, helping our partners boost their own green credentials through a collaborative approach.
GREEN SPACES
Scott Business Park: The Meadow
The Meadow is a dedicated amenity space that balances ecological health with functional outdoor use.
Wild meadow planting: We have replaced traditional grass with native meadow species to support local pollinators.
Tree and Sensory features: The area includes a canopy of mature trees and sensory art, creating a distinct environment for breaks or informal meetings.
Amenity seating: Integrated seating allows tenants and residents to use the space for rest and reflection throughout the day.
BIODIVERSITY
To support local wildlife and improve urban ecology, we have integrated several biodiversity initiatives throughout our developments:
Wildflower meadows: Using native varieties to replace traditional lawns, providing foraging opportunities for pollinators while reducing maintenance costs.
Pollinator-friendly zones: Specifically designed areas to support bees and butterflies.
Habitat creation: We have strategically placed bee and bug hotels, log piles, and bird and bat boxes to provide crucial breeding sites.
ENERGY
We optimise unique community-led models to power our facilities through renewable energy:
Jan Cutting Healthy Living Centre:
Our solar project here is a key partnership with Plymouth Energy Community (PEC), linking health and well-being with environmental responsibility.
WASTE
We are committed to a circular economy and minimising our waste footprint:
Zero to Landfill:
We work with a zero-to-landfill recycling contractor, provided free of charge for our tenants.
Compost Scheme:
We repurpose food waste from our community café to create compost. This organic material is then used by our grounds team to feed the flowerbeds and planted areas across our parks.

WATER
We are implementing practical solutions to conserve water and reduce plastic waste:
Refill Station:
We have dedicated stations within our community facilities and offices making chilled, filtered water easily available for tenants, visitors and hirers or our meeting rooms and conference facilities.
Water Butts:
Located on-site to harvest rainwater, which is used for the ongoing maintenance of our business park grounds and gardens.
